I’ve lived 34 years strong with the virus.
Diagnosed with hepatitis C and HIV, Gloria Searson became a powerful advocate for many.
I am living proof that being HIV positive is not the end of the world.
When I was first diagnosed, I saw HIV as a death sentence. But I know that doesn’t have to be the case as long as I take care of myself.
The best advice I received was to get up out of myself, push forward and live.
Since receiving my transplant, my purpose is to educate others about the importance of organ donation.
My motto is “Live every day like it’s the last.”
I struggle quite a lot with my disease, but somehow I still find that one thing to keep me going.
I have discovered that activism and advocacy are also my calling. I do what I can to help the voiceless.
I work in prevention services and linkage to care, and my wife is a dog salon manager. Together we work to conquer the world.
I’ve had my share of success. But things haven’t always been rosy; I have been insulted and assaulted simply for being gay and HIV positive.
HIV made me a better person. It made me appreciate life and the people around me.
In 2007, I was on a CBS reality show called Big Brother.
I’m still healthy, undetectable and living my life as I am supposed to.
